About
An example of O’Keeffe’s use of abstraction in many of her works, this painting uses tonal gradation and line to depict a scene of nature. A dramatic horizontal dilineation creates two spaces within the composition. A color gradation of sky blue to pale green occupies the top of the pictoral space. A clean edge crops the gradation, defining a large white rectangle in the bottom of composition. While more abstract than her most well-known works, this piece still conveys the emotions O’Keeffe felt when observing this natural scene.
