About
This oil painting is an example of O’Keeffe’s unique and enlarged flowers, a stylistic blend between abstraction and precisionism. In this close-up depiction of a pink tulip, one petal falls open to reveal its yellow stamens and green stigma. A green and yellow leaf slashes down the left of the flower, partially obscuring the back of the pink petals. The recurring hues of green, yellow, and blue throughout this piece reveal O’Keeffe’s careful attention to color composition and tonal gradation, a characteristic of much of her work.
