About
The second in a series of six paintings done by O’Keeffe of the North American flower common to Lake George, this painting is a close-up study of the Jack-in-the-Pulpit plant. In contrast to later paintings in this series, the majority of the deep purple spathe is visible. Emerald foliage flanks the top and bottom of the magnified flower, with a flat mauve occupying the middle of the background.
