About
This oil on canvas painting is a continuation of the skull motif employed by O'Keeffe in many of her paintings. In this depiction, the close-up study of a skull of an undetermined animal, either a horse or a mule, sits against a white background. A feather is propped against the side of the skull, the details of its pattern contrasting the smooth tonal gradations of bone.
