About

One of a series of compositions done at different points in O’Keeffe’s life in Amarillo Texas, through this painting she wished to represent her fascination with cattle being herded across the the dry, southern plains. Heavily abstract in style, this painting depicts a bright pulse of yellow, extending almost from edge to edge. The form is echoed by a series of layering pulses of orange, vermillion, yellow, and bright red. At the bottom edge of the painting, a few strips of red, orange, and brown neatly crop the central figure. The brilliant colors and exaggerated forms of this painting reference O’Keeffe’s emotional response to the arid landscape of Texas.
