About
In this watercolor painting, the “evening star” is depicted as a pulse of yellow towards the top right of the painting, blending into a halo of bright orange and red. At the bottom of the painting, a thick horizontal strip of dark blue and a smaller one of forest green almost converge, only separated by a sliver of unpainted paper. Unlike her later oil paintings, O’Keeffe employed the unpainted spaces in this painting, furthering the prominence of the watercolor forms. In this painting, O’Keeffe portrays the rhythm and pulses of nature, a reference to her emotional connection with her surroundings.
