About
This is an example of the artist's precisionist style. Best known for her flowers and their depiction of the beauty of the female form, this painting shows the drab, gray, uninviting cityscape. Located in midtown Manhattan, The Shelton Hotel was her residence from 1925 until 1936. This bird's-eye view from her apartment shows the industrial waterfront with spewing smokestacks, blue sky trying to emerge from the haze while portraying her dislike of living in an urban environment.
