About
Georgia O'Keeffe painted this while on a nine week trip to Hawai'i, commissioned to produce work that was to be pineapple-themed, for the Hawaiian Pineapple Company, later named Dole Food Company.
O'Keeffe was amazed by the Hana Coast and its rock formations. She wrote that “the lava washes into such sharp and fantastic shapes.” This is one of two paintings depicting these rocks owned by the Honolulu Museum of Art.
