About
Bellows paints The Queensboro Bridge in New York which links Manhattan to Queens. Midway, the massive piers rest on Blackwell’s Island. Painted from Manhattan’s side of the bridge, Bellows paints a grim vista of factories and docks. In typical form, his bold slashes and thick paint application combined with a unique color palette breathes a new air of life and excitement into this painting and to the city. The onlookers Bellow’s chose to include in the composition add magic to the scene as they gaze in wonder at the newly opened double-decker bridge: engineering feat.
