About
This pastoral image departs greatly from Bellows’ urban life and amateur boxing matches scenes. George Bellows painted Jim Twadell’s Place while he was working at the artists’ colony of Woodstock. The painting, once completed, even hung in the living room of the house he built there. The home painted in the scene belongs to Jim Twadell, a horse trainer and friend of Bellows.
