As an amateur baseball and basketball player, Bellow maintained a lifelong interest in sports. He would often paint polo matches and fight rings. In A Day in June, instead of capturing the sporting event, he captures a vivacious crowd, dressed up in elegant white dresses and suits, mere accessories to the main event. This particular event is in Central Park and a skyscraper sticks out above the treeline, a symbol of the twentieth-century American city.
