About
Davis painted on both large and small scale, creating some works which were infinitesimal and others outside on the street that was several meters long. This acrylic on canvas piece is not even close to the largest work Davis did, but still uses its scale to draw the viewer in. In 1975, Davis invited views not to look at any of his paintings as a whole, but rather to, “enter the painting through the door of a single color,” by first choosing a single stripe to look at, see how it functioned in the paintings, and to let it guide them through the rest of the composition.
