In this painting, Weeping Coconuts (Cocos Gimientes), Frida Kahlo depicts a still-life with fruit. She painted more still-lifes in her later years as her health was increasingly in decline. The focus of this painting is two big, furry, brown coconuts that sit side by side cradled by a quartered papaya. The coconuts take on anthropomorphic qualities displaying common themes in Kahlo's work regarding pain and her tumultuous relationship with Diego Rivera. The coconut on the right is dripping from its eyes, perhaps suggestive of teardrops. A small Mexican flag is stuck in a lime displaying the Spanish words "I paint with all my love Frida Kahlo."
