About
Little Blue Horse depicts a young blue horse in the foreground with a colorful landscape in the background. Animals were a common subject in Marc’s paintings because they represented a pure sense of life. The horse is surrounded by a small stream, plants and a mountainous landscape. This painting in particular was attempting to reflect the spirit of the horse and transcend beyond the physical reality of the horse. Marc applied his color theory to this painting, the blue horse symbolized masculinity and is balanced by the yellow sky representing femininity and joy.
