About
Zinc Yellow (1959) is a work from Franz Kline’s re-integration of color into his stark black and white palette in the late 1950s. Despite re-introducing color into the composition, Kline’s work maintains a similar formal approach with respect to brushstroke and line. The large swath of yellow strokes, to which the title refers, is situated in front of Kline’s signature muddy white background and accompanied by sharp black lines nearly identical to those found in his black and white compositions.
