About
After reintroducing color into his compositions in the 1950s, Kline produced dynamic and alluring canvases such as Orange and Black Wall (1959) as a part of his Wall Paintings series (1959-1960). This large-scale painting makes scale a principle part of its visual and affective experience, leaving the viewer in awe. This interest in scale would become a central principle to minimalism, and especially minimalist sculpture, for which Kline was undoubtedly an early influence.
