About

This print is one of the eighty-two in Goya's "The Disasters of War" series, posthumously published. Through black and white prints of individuals affected by war, Goya criticized the violence of the 1808 Dos de Mayo Uprising and the Peninsular War of 1808–1814. Will she rise Again? highlights an individual presumed to be dead as a crowd of dogs and humanoid figures surround her. There seems to be a radiating, haloed light emitting from her body, as Goya leaves her upper body and head without heavy shading while the rest of the figures are shrouded in darkness.
SKU: 56508
Creator: Francisco de Goya
Date: 1863
Original Medium: Etching and aquatint
Original Size: 6 7/8 x 8 11/16 in.
