About
Aguarda que te unten. (Wait till you’ve been anointed.) is one of the eighty prints in Goya’s 1799 ‘Los Caprichos’ series of aquatint etchings which aimed to condemn the society in which he lived. This etching is the 67th one in the series, as evident by the written number in the top right. Two absurdly grotesque, humanoid figures hold a human foot and hoof of a ram, presumably the devil, as he jumps up in an attempt to escape their clutches. The pair are perhaps witches attempting to use the devil’s powers. The long-eared figure holds a paintbrush submerged in a bowl of liquid in the hand that doesn’t clasp on to the human foot of the ram.
