About

Bacon's Three Figures and Portrait showcases images of his late lover, George Dyer, and twisted human-like bodies in an enclosed atmosphere. He uses geometric shapes, such as the curved circular orbs and the boxed container (enclosed around his figures), and the perfectly square frame (in which Dyer's portrait sits), to trap his contorted bodies within the artwork. Bacon also takes influence from Edgar Degas' After the Bath, Woman Drying Herself, as seen by the spine protruding out of the torso on the painting's left-hand side.
