About
The Justice of Trajan (53-117) is an oil painting by Eugne Delacroix. It depicts a story of the Roman Emperor Trajan. Whilst he is preparing for the Dacian wars, a mother of a murdered man asked for vengeance and justice. In the center of the painting, Emperor Trajan is riding into the city dressed in his finery. People crowd around the streets to look at him. On the floor is a murdered man lying on the floor, his mother has her hands spread open before the emperor to stop his horse. Her facial expression is filled with sorrow as she asks the emperor for vengeance. Delacroix used classical elements of balance and symmetrical composition to create this complicated scene in the streets of Rome.
