About
Kirchner’s use of vibrant color in this painting is typical of his work, and the style of Die Brücke (The Bridge), the German expressionist group which Kirchner was a leading member of. He used a bright blue in place of the traditional black or dark brown for the shadows on the woemn’s bodies, making them stand out against the warm orange and yellow of their skin.
