About
This black pencil drawing of a young woman from the waist-up is not as outwardly seductive as some of other Schiele’s works. There’s a subtle coyness in the way Schiele depicts her, leaning forward with elbows on an implied surface and eyes directed at the viewer with a wakefulness. The linework varies in detail, with Schiele paying increased attention to her soft facial features and clothing in comparison to her hands and hair.
