About
Schiele depicts the backside of a man with watercolors, detailling his body in hues of greens, reds, and bieges. Schiele decontextualizes the body by omitting the fabric he assumedly holds to cover his bottom, effectively erasing the bottom half of the body and abstracting his right hand in Schiele’s vision. His lean body is accuentated by Schiele’s distortion, while his eye is left blank– conveying a lonely emptiness.
