About
Cat Boat is an etching that depicts two muscular men sailing a catboat along the coast. The heat from the summer can be seen through the attire of the men and the warm breeze captured by the sail. Hopper used different etching techniques to differentiate between the forms of the coast, ocean, and boat. The natural elements had more organic etching forms, whilst the boat possessed more straight, geometric lines. The etching evokes a sense of adventure and suspense as the men are sailing towards the coast.
