About
New York Pavements is a bird’s eye view of a street and the exterior of the building in New York. This painting showed Hopper’s fascination with architecture and shows a classical row house made of stone featuring columns and step portico. The clean building exterior and street point to the assumption that it is an upper-class neighborhood. In the bottom left corner, a nanny is going for a walk with a baby in a carriage. The street seems to be motion and Hopper captured a small moment in the painting.
