About
Moonlight Interior depicts a nude woman crouching down next to her bed next to an open window, revealing the evening sky and surrounding houses. Hopper uses the layering of colors and brushstrokes to capture the moonlight’s reflection off of the woman’s body, highlighting her natural form. The curtains next to her window are moving, indicating some wind and introducing natural elements into the scene. A water basin, towel, and vase are seen next to the window showing that she may be washing up before bed. Through the window, the cityscape can be seen. The crowded houses contrast the relatively empty interior of the room revealing the reality of isolation and loneliness that many feel in the modern world.
