About
House and Boats (also known as Seaside House) depicts the side of a house by the coastline with a boat and a sail next to the house. The geometric forms of the house are defined, with layering colors to capture the architectural details. However, near the bottom of the painting, the brushstrokes depicting a patch of grass next to the sea become more abstract. On the bottom right of the painting, Hopper uses blue to create a shape resembling a sailboat in the water. The rest of the abstract forms are left to the imagination of the viewer.
