About
Habitacion de hotel depicts a woman sitting on her bed reading in a small hotel room. In many of Hopper’s paintings, he explores the themes of travel and isolation in modern times. The woman sits alone, and the light shines down on her highlighting her loneliness and isolation. Her belongings and suitcases are on the floor and furniture around her, revealing that she is a traveler. Hopper sought to capture travel in scenes that travelers most often encounter such as train stations, cars, and hotel rooms. The bare and small hotel rooms reveal the reality of modern travel and show that it might not be as luxurious as many make it out to seem,
