About
Evening Wind is an etching that depicts a nude woman getting out of bed and looking at her open window, in which wind is blowing into the interior. Hopper sought to convey the idea of the aura of mystery through an everyday subject matter. Evening Wind can also be considered as relating to previous artworks by representing a modern-day Annunciation. The woman is naked, showing her vulnerability and receptivity to the wind which represents an unforeseen force whether it is natural or supernatural. It leaves the viewer wondering what the woman is looking at and feeling the suspense of the scene.
