About
El Palacio depicts a commercial street in a rural agricultural town with mountains in the background. Hopper explores the interaction between humans, built structures, and nature through this painting. The geometric shapes of the buildings differ from the organic shapes of the mountains and the clouds. In addition, the line of buildings is painted with vibrant colors such as blue, yellow, and orange, contrasting the natural colors of the sky and mountains in the background. However, Hopper also layers colors such as green and brown on the buildings to show the passage of time and the degradations of structures due to natural elements.
