About
Early Sunday Morning depicts New York City’s Seventh Avenue during an early morning day. Hopper strips down the scene to the bare essentials, focusing mostly on the architectural forms and details, and blurs out the text on the window. He uses vibrant colors to capture the daylight and the reflection of sunlight on the bright colored buildings. The contrast of the vertical buildings and the horizontal shadows create an almost theatrical atmosphere of the unpopulated street. It evokes a sense of serenity and quietness on an otherwise busy street.
