About
Corn Hill (Truro, Cape Cod) depicts a few rows of houses perched up on top of a hill. The houses seem to be isolated and the only sign of humanity in its surroundings. This painting is an example of the theme that Hopper often explored: the interaction between man-made structures with natural elements. He used a light color palette to capture the bright sunny day. In addition, the sunlight shining down on the ill highlights all the detailed protruding and receding forms of the hills. This is balanced with the geometric shapes of the house. The balanced composition evokes a sense of serenity and calmness.
