About
Hopper would often stroll in New York City at night and look up at the building lights and Conference at Night was Hopper’s imagining of what the interiors of an office look like after hours. Three people, two men, and one woman, crowd around a table, engaged in conversation. The office is deliberately bare to show that the office is officially closed. However, as one man is dressed to leave, another has their sleeves rolled up and ready to work. The lights from the street shine into the office, illuminating the three subjects, prompting the viewer to question their topic of conversation.
