About
Girls on the Pier is one of seven renditions Munch painted of the scene inspired from time spent at the Åsgardstrand resort in 1893. Munch employs bold, exaggerated lines and vibrant colors to render the girls and scene, modeling the three figures in brooding poses, two of which are seemingly transfixed by the river and their own thoughts while the third turns away from the others and towards the viewer with a blank face.
