About
Women sit along a cafe terrace, likely waiting for gentlemen callers, who will enjoy their company for a pretty penny. The street across the road seems to be bustling with activity, but the cafe where the women sit is quite, mostly unpopulated aside from the women themselves and the shadowy figure passing by on the right hand side. In this piece, Degas plays with the limits of what can be considered and indoor space and what is outside, through the use of pillars, beams, and lights.
