About
Here Degas captured a group of dancers readying themselves for a performance. Each is costumed and made up the same, aside from the man among them who stands in a formal suit or tuxedo. The dressed of the dancers are elegant and feminine, adorned with pale pink and white flowers. Degas's love of ballet was strong, leading him to create over 1,500 works devoted to the art form over a period of 40 years. His artistic process often mirrored that of the dancers he so loved; repetition and endless time spent perfecting the same forms. This dedication to subject matter let to a masterful understanding of the way the human moves.
