About
The dancers, so lively with their swirling skirts and flowing sleeves, are caught in a moment of movement so crisply, the viewer can imagine the resolution to their sequence of steps. Music floats through the viewer's mind, and the scene become almost real the longer one looks at it. Not only does the piece have great visual interest, but it engages with every sense thanks to Degas's masterful use of his medium. There is a vibrancy and life to this piece inspired by a troupe of Ukrainian dancers who came to Paris in the 1890s, sparking Degas's interest.
