About
Degas painted a number of horse racing scenes throughout his career, utilizing the same poses and jockeys from one composition to the next. The frontmost jockey with the yellow helmet and his horse are also seen in a pastel drawing titled Race Horses, only the jockey wears a different color. The scene is lively, filled with horses and jockeys preparing for a race, just finished with being weighed. Each jockey is wearing a vibrantly colored top and helmet, making them more easily visible to spectators.
