About
This loose sketch features a young dancer, resting during a rehearsal or performance. Degas often created created sketches similar to this one, and many were found in his studio after his passing in 1917. Most of Degas’s works were not signed by him, so after his death the executors of his estate used a stamp imitating his signature to “sign” his works in bright red ink as they left his studio.
