About
Head of a Peasant Girl is an abstract interpretation of a portrait of a girl. Rivera painted the girl in the center of the composition. Also, the darker colors on the girl contrasted with the lighter background, drawing the viewer’s focus to the girl’s face. She is gazing at the side of the painting and wearing a headband with a bag balanced over her head. The pattern of her headband is echoed in her dress design. He uses darker color shades to define the different forms of the space, and all the details are drawn in with charcoal.
