About
This artwork is a nude portrayal of his wife, Frida Kahlo. She is depicted sitting on the edge of the bed with her arms raised above her head and looking down at the ground. She is wearing a large necklace and high heels. In this work, Rivera emphasized naturalism and used shading to accentuate almost the muscles in her body, particularly in her arms and legs. Her shadow outlines her body which contrasts with the background. The yellow tint to the drawing brings a sense of warmth and openness to the artwork. The lack of detail and shading in the background draws the viewer’s attention to the subject.
