The Bunker Hill Monument, seen in the distance in this photo, was placed on the site of the Battle of Bunker Hill, one of the early battles during the American Revoltion. Charleston is the oldest neighborhood in Boston and was originally called Mishawum by the Native American Massachusett tribe.
