About
Hassam painted a series of nearly thirty works featuring the United States flag between 1916 and 1919. These works mirrored his patriotic feelings and were in response to, and support of, America's involvement in World War I. He creates an abstract quality to his depiction of buildings, flags, and the parade in New York City.
