About
Demuth had a fondness for watercolors, a medium he often used as his health continued to decline. From his youth, Demuth had a hip disease which caused him to be of poor health and ostracized him from his peers. However, it did not stop himfrom pursuing education in the arts, attending first the Drexel Institute of Technology before moving on to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His education was enhanced through travel to Europe where he was exposed to the cutting edge in art and adopted some of it into his own style. This is seen in the geometric shapes of Trees and Barns (Bermuda), which would have been directly influece by Cubism, a relatively young European art movement at the time that was quickly spreading.
