About
Morisot’s landscape painting of the beach of Les Petits Dalles near Fécamp details loose brushstrokes as the landscape fades onto the horizon line. The evenly lit scene can be divided into three prominent color sections as the land meets the sea, and the sea meets the sky. The faintly rendered figures of the foreground break up the section as your eye traces the various newly introduced colors back through the crowd and onto the ships on the horizon. The beach of Les Petits Dalles near Fécamp was a favorite vacation spot in Normandy for Morisot and her family.
