About
Morisot uses a variety of soft pastels to add playful colors to this drawing of children. A girl sits at a piano, reading the cut off music sheet while another child looks past the girl, leaning on the piano. The artist uses oil pastel to create brief marks of color, items or surfaces that aren't part of the primary subject matter are given less attention when blending, while the tones of the two children are mixed well. Part of the significant impressionistic quality is developed in the random color variations of each surface. While not abstract, it adds an extra layer of interest to light, movement, and narrative.
