About
The two figures of this oil painting blend into the surrounding landscape as Morisot’s brushstrokes vibrate against one another. The painting is full of movement as each color and stroke moves past one another as if a burst of wind sliced through the tall grass where the figures sit. The bursts of yellow in the grass are representative of reflecting sunlight. The two figures are thought to be the children of Morisot and her sister Edma, the younger girl is arguable, Julie, Morisot’s daughter. This impressionistic painting is representative of the spontaneous qualities of movement and light under a natural setting. The two figures are sitting in the garden of Edma’s country home, just outside Paris.
