About
Eugene Manet is the husband to Berthe Morisot and the brother of Édouard Manet. He sits on a chair with his arm resting on its back while he looks out the open window to a woman and child passing by across the flower garden. Morisot captures the light from the window as it reflects brightly off of her husband’s coat and how bright white it makes the surfaces of the outdoor scene. The curtains also capture the movement of light as they sway in the breeze coming from the open window. The slight folds and creases look to be mid-movement on the right-hand side of the paintings. Maney looks to be holding the curtain back with his arm on the left. The bright, pastel blues and grays frame the green leaves and red and yellow flowers of the garden.
