About
This illustration belongs to the nursery rhyme The Tale of Ginger and Pickles. Three cats peer through the window glass of a shop front and inside are various reflective bottles and aluminum tins of different goods. The viewer holds the view from inside the shop front, peering over a charcoal grayscale as the three multicolored cats gaze through, marveling at the goods on display. Potter's characteristic illustrative marks appear in the pastels of watercolor and are sharp gradients of color.
