About
This illustration from Appley Dapply’s Nursery Rhymes details the process of a guinea pig getting dressed. To accompany her illustration, Potter wrote the rhyme, “There once was an amiable guinea pig, who brushed his hairs like a periwig. He wore a sweet tie, as blue as the sky and his whiskers and buttons were very big.” Potter’s fast, sketch-like marks capture a specific mythical moment in time where this playful creature admires his tie in the mirror. The soft, pastel marks keep the tone light and in motion.
